River City Girls stars Kyoko and Misako, two tough high school girls who must fight their way through six regions of River City to save their kidnapped boyfriends, the main characters of the series, Kunio and Riki. Along the way, they will use an arsenal of combos, counterattacks, throws, and special attacks; fight against various opponents; take on numerous side tasks; Level up with experience points. interact with NPCs (including guest stars from previous River City games) and buy different items, food, and equipment to improve stats and unlock new abilities. Girls can even wield weapons and recruit defeated enemies to join them in battle!
The bare-knuckle fight for one or two players is complemented by spectacular 16-bit-style graphics and an epic synth-pop soundtrack (featuring NateWantsToBattle, Chipzel, Christina Vee, and Megan McDuffee!), and the storyline comes to life with gorgeous anime cutscenes and manga-style cutscenes.
River City Girls 2
Continuing the story of the first RCG installment, River City Girls 2 throws hot-tempered high school students Misako, Kyoko, Kunio, and Riki — along with new characters Marian and Provie — into a fight for their lives as an old enemy returns to wreak havoc. But girls (and boys) don't give up without a fight. They fight with new stat-changing accessories, new items, new weapons, and additional moves (such as Kyoko's Cartwheel Kick and Misako's Lightning Rider), as well as all-new abilities such as guard-destroying attacks and lift-off combos. Recruited enemies return to help in the fight – this time you can keep two at a time! – Plus, you can now use hired henchmen who have even more punching power!
River City is more vibrant than ever, with a day-night cycle, more complex terrain, more shops, new threats, hidden areas, and plenty of objects to destroy. The combat will take players to a number of new and updated regions of the city — including downtown slums, a tech company campus, and an enchanted forest — and pit them against a variety of new enemies and bosses, such as the Dragon Twins (Ryuji and Ryuichi). Our heroes can even visitHide and place hideouts where they can store extra gear, trade recruits, or just relax listening to music.
Other additions to River City Girls 2 include improved quest tracking, three difficulty levels, and a dynamic story system with dialogue that changes depending on the characters the player controls. Of course, the game also features a new animated intro, new comic-book-style cutscenes, and a powerful new synthpop soundtrack by Megan McDuffee, the composer of the original River City Girls!
